FRANKENSTEIN(1/2)

     I read "FRANKENSTEIN". This book is written by Mary Shelley. In fact, maybe everyone mistake, 'Frankenstein' is not name of monster but name of a scientist. He created a monster. The story is in Switzerland and appears many beautiful descriptions of mountains. Although I read first half yet, I'll introduce important scenes with quotation.

I wanted to discover where life came from. I wanted to experiment with science as much as possible. I wanted to create life.

     When Frankenstein was young, he saw thunder hitting the tree near his house. Then he was interested in electricity and in the power that exists in all natural things. This  sentences are the beginning of terrible. If he didn't want to create life and has ethics, he and people around him would be unhappy. 

The man was terribly ugly. He had thick black hair and white teeth, but his skin was yellow and dry. His eyes were very pale. He was a monster.

     This sentences is from his successful experiment.  His creation is terrible, even he is scared his creation. But this heartless responses to monster accuse tragedy. This sentences use a lot of color, so you can easily imagine fear or the creepy of this monster.

 You must create a female for me, as ugly and terrible as I am. I will be able to live with her and have a friend.

     The monster asked Frankenstein to create another female monster. For monsters who have never been loved since their birth, and have lived without being recognized, they wanted a partner to talk to, even with a hateful him. On the other hand, the monster make him feel humiliation and guilt to make a monster again.

     When I finished reading first half, I think that this story is not horror but sad story. Although I I was scared of the vengeance of the monster, I couldn't help feeling sympathy for the monster. I'm looking forward to what the end will be.

The Mystery of Allegra

     I read "The Mystery of Allegra". Allegra is an unusual name. It means 'happy' in Italian, but the little girl in this story is sometimes very sad. Adrian,'I', is an English boy and tries to help this poor girl. I'll introduce important points with quotation. She was looking at me with big eyes, as blue as Italian sky in summer. Her blond hair was as bright as sunlight round her pale face.         This sentences is when Adrian met Allegra for the first time. He visited Italy with his parents on Holiday. They stayed a villa and he slept in a room different from his parents. Then, in night he met her. The reason I like this sentences is that it uses metaphors and easy to imagine her looks. Especially, I like "big eyes, as blue as Italian sky in summer". I have never visited Italy, but I can imagine sunny Italian sky. Rain, Rain, Rain!

"I don't like the rain. And it's raining today." She think, "I don't want to go to school." School starts at 9 o'clock. Now it's 8:20! This story is a girl who is likely to be late for school. She is a hurry,  but she can't use her bicycle, train and bus by  some accident.   It wonders if she get to school in time. I admire to this girl because she go to school by bicycle in the rain. If I am her, I will ask for my parents to take me to school. In the rain, road is wet and the view is wrong. Also, it is important to listen to other's advice .

San Francisco

  This week, I read “San Francisco”. This book has ten chapters, and they introduce San Francisco’s weather, history, tourist spot and shops. Although every chapter are interested, I will introduce my interesting chapters with quotation.   Chapter 3: From 1906 to the Summer of Love      This chapter is about modern San Francisco from 1906. 1906 is an important year for people and history in San Francisco. At 5.12 in the morning on Wednesday 18 April 1906, the earth suddenly began to move in San Francisco. ~The earth did not stop moving for forty-two seconds. It was a very big earthquake – one of the worst earthquakes in the world at that time.      I did not know they have experienced such a disaster. Because of this disaster, the fire continued to burn for four days, and more than three thousand men, women, and children died. When I read this number, I was so surprised. Even more surprising, in the year after the earthquake, San Francisco became a wonderful city again.   C
